On Friday the 14th of Sept 2007 the directors of the Carlton Lawn Tennis Company Limited met and voted by 7 votes to 6 to sell the whole of the Wood Rd North site ( currently the premises of the Darley Lawn Tennis and Social Club ).
Is this fair? Is this legal? This was and still is your club. Members have put their money into this club for years: behind the bar and in the form of annual subscriptions. Funds provided by the merger with the Northleigh were used to build the clubhouse. Why should that investment be lost? Is it right that these thirteen directors who are invited onto the board because of their previous associations with the club and who have invested none of their own money, except for a nominal £1 share, should be able to sell this land and potentially gain personally from the proceeds? Is it right that £55,000 worth of Trafford tax payers' money, used to resurface the tennis courts, should be thrown away just to possibly line the pockets of a few?
